Graham Watches – Big Military Inspired Timepieces

George Graham was remembered as the “father of the chronograph”, he was also the brains behind inventions such as the dead beat cylinder escapement, the first wall clock chronograph and the mercury pendulum. Today Graham is known to be a contemporary wristwatch name that is dedicated to creating watches for enthusiasts of mechanical art. This is a British name with the Swiss creating the magnificent “wrist machines”.

Graham watches are reworking and rethinking the core meaning of a mechanical sports watch. The military theme runs throughout these large masculine designs. In just two years since Graham’s imergance they have managed to create two of the most iconic instruments in this new era of watch making. The original Graham watch was the Chronofighter.

GRAHAM CHRONOFIGHTER Founder and CEO, Eric Loth looked back to the 1st and 2nd World Wars. In particular the pilots of British RAF bombers who wore precision instruments similar on their wrists. In order for the bombs to be dropped precisely it was critical that they were so at accurate, pre-determined intervals. The giant chronographs they wore were set with massive trigger mechanisms so they could control them even with gloved hands.

One of the main features on the Graham Chronofighter is the huge trigger mecanism which when pressed activates the co-axial chronograph pusher that is set in the watch crown. The chrono on the watch can easily be set back to zero with the use of the pusher that is located above the trigger.

Graham do not compromise and the materials used for the Chronofighter Oversized Commando with the likes of titanium, ceramic and carbon fibre all featuring. The key factor is not solely in the materials used but in the manner they are used, for example, the use of ceramic for the clasp is because of the wear this part sustains. To keep the watch lightweight titanium is used for the case. Forged carbon used for the bezel is used for its resilience and the use of steel in the trigger area is to maximise the strength in this area.

Graham Swordfish Grillo Alarm GMT
This watch has the first optical big date. The Swordfish design took the watch world by storm in 2005, this is the new model.

Still keeping the dipping lugs, precisely built case and textured crowns the new design is set apart with its magnifying date eye which in turn leaves room for the alarm and GMT function.
