I have recently come across some pretty shocking figures when it comes to how children that wear glasses feel. Many of them do not understand why they are being picked on and so many of them also want to not use their glasses anymore simply because they are  being bullied, but why is this?

It would be wrong of me to say that every single glasses wearer is smart as this is not true but the smart ones are the ones bullies often target. This is based on the general figures. The reason that kids do this is because they know the geekier kids are a lot cleverer than them and they also know they are more superior than them. The reason that so many children find it hard to fight back is because the bully pushes at the confidence level.

These are shocking figures that should really bring home the issue. One of the first steps to take when it comes to bullying is simply ask them to ask the bullies to stop doing it. If this doesn’t work tell them to stand up for themselves. useing the fact that bullies are often not clever is a great idea. Failing all of this just go into the school and make a note of speaking to the head about it as this will get results.

So when you think glasses don’t always think cool police glasses and aviator glasses, think about the normal people that wear cheap glasses.

“Lead is the number-one environmental health threat to our children.” So says the Environmental Protection Agency of the United States. Those of us who have been around for a while remember the lead paint scare. After lead paint was outlawed, it took a while to remove or paint over the toxic covering. There are five heavy metals that pose a health risk when ingested: lead, cadmium, mercury, aluminum, and beryllium. The first three are the most dangerous. The author checked his own city water system and found the level of lead in the water he receives is 2.5 parts per billion. Levels as high as 12 ppb are still within the limits. However, the last lead test on the water was done two years before the report was issued.

Concern over lead poisoning in city water systems only increases when one reads a report from the Washington Post. Their examination of 65 of the 3,000 largest utilities found that Portland, Maine, New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, and Providence, R.I. are “manipulating the results of tests used to detect lead in water, violating federal law and putting millions of Americans at risk.” The report further states that more than 250 major cities currently exceed the EPA’s lead standards, and many are using deceptive means in reporting of the problems.

Though lead has no advantage to the body, it does cause serious problems.  “Each year in the U.S., lead in drinking water contributes to 480,000 cases of learning disorders in children and 560,000 cases of hypertension in adult males.” The truth is, we cannot be rid of the problem of ingesting lead entirely. However, we can do as much as possible to minimize its presence.

The effect of lead in the human body is frightening. Some of the problems, in alphabetical order are myelopathy (spinal cord pathology), nausea, nephritis, nightmares, numbness, Parkinson’s disease, peripheral neuropathies, psychosis, psychomotor dysfunction, pyorrhea, renal dysfunction, restlessness, retardation, schizophrenia, seizures, sterility, stillbirths, sudden infant death syndrome, tingling, tooth decay, vertigo, and unintentional weight loss.

The list continues. In summary, the leading areas of concern are kidney problems and nervous system damage. As you can see, these are not the only problems lead causes, but they are certainly a legitimate concern.

What can we do about this problem? First, check your house for any lead pipes that carry water and replace them immediately. Also, be sure if your house is old, that no lead paint is still present. This should have been checked before you bought it. Third, get a good activated charcoal water filter like the Black Berkey or their shower filter. These claim to remove 95% of the lead found in the water. Think of the peace of mind you will experience when you know you are providing for yourself and your family safe drinking water!

• Once the movers are already in your house and picking up your things, put the bird away in a quiet and calm place.  Your pet bird should be the last to leave and should be in travel bird cages.  Upon arriving in the new home, put the bird in a quiet place first before bringing the boxes and the things inside your home.  To relax and calm the bird, you can play some music.  This would also lessen the sounds coming from the unpacking.

• If moving to a new place requires a long drive, the stops should be kept to minimum.  You can just buy food at a drive-thru.  If you prefer eating in a restaurant, consider the weather conditions when leaving your pet in the car.In no case they should be left iinside, because it may be too hot or cold for them.

It would require a very long move, when you are moving from one state to another state.  You also have to check the state regulations about your pets.  Sometimes, a certain state might have laws that could prohibit your bird, especially if you are taking care of an exotic bird.

• For long distance moves, check hotels or motels you would be sleeping in if they have pet regulations.  They can charge additional for bringing pets.  You do not want to leave your pet outside in the car at the mercy of predators.

• Also when moving, whether it s state to state or just to another city, make sure to have a health certificate from your veterinarian.  You would find this handy when getting a new vet in the new location you have moved to. 

When travelling with your pets, preparation is an important factor.It will need you to prepare well, if you want to go for flying.   Make sure that the airlines you are flying with allow birds, if it is international flight birds are mostly placed in cargo area.  You have to make sure that the birds are comfortable throughout the flight.

Actually, you can help your pet get used to travelling, you can take it out in short day trips.You must remember that never put bird in the front seat, when you are taking your bird out for a drive.  If the air bag suddenly opens, the impact could result to severe, even fatal, injuries.

When taking your pet bird out in car, be sensitive.  There are some birds who prefer to have the cage covered, while there are some birds who would like to know what is happening around him.  Be careful with the noise inside the car like the music and also be careful of the fumes they can inhale like air fresheners or cigarette smoke.  

When travelling or moving, it is important to make sure that your pet birds are comfortable throughout the travelling period.
